Sister does have a meaning as “修女”,while according to the definition from Webster, sister can also be used to name the member of a women's religious order, especially the one of a Roman Catholic congregation under simple vows. In my story Peter is an orphan grown in the church, thus it is quite natural for him to call other young ladies as “Sister”. Moreover, in ancient Britain (I mean before Henry VIII), people were deeply involved in religion and they mostly called strangers or even friends as Sister or Brother, such as Sister Lily or Sister Angel. Here, the word “sister” is much more meaningful than that in China. Admittedly, what I wrote actually just follows the reading habit and taste of Chinese readers, so there is no need, I think, to delve into the real situation in English language. Anyway, fiction is just a fiction, right? Thanks for your careful reading. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 作者回复: 呃~回复里面两个错误,一个是grown up,少打了个up,还有一个是in Chinese,不是in China~太丢人了。。。 弦~~~啊,不愧是学英语的阿。 太强了
