The Spring Festival was dull except for the bland Lunar New Year’s Eve dinner.
The Guildhall, usually held with dozens of lodgers, was quiet even as most had back home or hung out with friends.
But it worked out well for Xuan Huaifeng.
He loved peace. It has always been this way.He took some foreign novels from the shelf and back in his room, he picked out several thick foreign novels from the shelf and read comfortably in bed.
Meals at the Guildhall were charged per person. The food was not elaborate, but the servant was thoughtful. Knowing Xuan Huaifeng’s temperament, he didn’t call him out to eat, instead, he neatly served hot dishes on a small tray to his room, letting him dine quietly alone.
After days of thoughtful attentiveness, Xuan Huaifeng felt obliged. Though short on cash, he gave the servant fifty cents from his envelope as a Lunar New Year tip.
Unconsciously,spring break was over.
Xuan Huaifeng went back to teaching at school as usual.
