《the woods》且看

1、intro The N

　　Ever since Lavetta began to have a linguistic memory, she has been reminded many many times: do NOT go into the northern woods! She had always been careful to follow this simple rule, because this was one thing that she could do perfectly. Was she curious? Definitely. She had always been lured by the fascinating lights dancing at night and the tinkering music played by some instrument she could not identify.
　　Up to now, I have hoped to excite YOUR curiousity, my readers, for of course any person would ask why the northern woods was forbidden? Was the lights lit by fairies, along with the music? I have no answer for you except for this:

　　"Grandma, I think I am old enough, so will you please, please tell me at least why the forests are forbidden to me? I have seen you enter several times at night." Lavetta inquired innocently one night when she turned 16.

　　Upon hearing the latter part, the composed lady began to cough suddenly, and gasped for breath, "why child, cough cough, I dont think I have been to the woods at all. You must hae mistaken a deer or , cough, something rather. It is a very dangerous place for young ladies. "

　　"Oh Grandma, I am sure that it was not deer. I swear! A deer would have moved much faster I'm sure."

　　"Now, child, hush, no more should be said, it is time."

　　It was the time of iniation, for when every girl of the village turns 13, she must be initiated. This involved a big gathering at the hall and examination then blessing by the elder. Laveta could hardly wait for this thrilling event. Initiation meant she was finally gorwn up! The parties she would go to, the dazzling beaus that she could court!

　　"Of course Grandma! I will go now and prepare."

　　The clever Lavetta was not so easily assured. She knew what she had seen at night and she is determined to get to the bottom of this and to night offered her a perfect opportunity- initiation.

　　Honestly she could care less about the boring ceremony but it was going to be held in the WOODS! Altought only on the very edge of it, it was enough to excite the innocent 13 year old Lavetta. "i must explore the woods tonight by all means possible," the rebellious child thought simplistically.
