“Out of a Grove” is adapted from the famous short fiction “In a Grove”, which was written by Akutagawa Ryūnosuke and published 100 yrs ago. In the original story, there are only contradicting testimonies from the witnesses and the victim, but I made it into a whodunit mystery and added this ending. I used different versions of a Japanese ghost tale Yotsuya Kaidan as references. The purpose of choosing this topic is that I noticed some people like to emphasize the unreliability of narrators and think it’s impossible to know the truth, so they are trapped in a kind of historical nihilism or even intentionally use it to achieve their purposes. Also, some people think that we are humans with weaknesses, and their point of view can change rights and wrongs, so they accept a kind of moral nihilism. No matter how, I want to be a pursuer of truth using my full intelligence and strength, and how about you audience? You are welcomed to exchange thoughts with me. Thank you!”
