　　Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. His is one of the most important people in modern times for all the successes he achieved: he led the Union through the Civil War which saved the union from cleavage; he freed Confederate slaves with the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation and gave black people the equal rights with white people; he was also admired as a fearless and brave person by his people.
　　We all know that for one country, the territorial integrity is as important as sovereignty. But at that time, the stubborn Southern States which insisted to disengage from the Union was just the biggest threat to the whole country. Thought Lincoln himself was a peace lover, hating war and the death and destruction it would bring to the nation. At last, he accepted war as the only means of saving the Union. Anyhow that war saved the whole nation, saved the union and saved the future of America. We cannot image what America is like now without the struggle led by Lincoln for unification. What is more, Lincoln’s behavior set an example for many countries which were also facing the internal cleavages. Now China insists that Taiwan is an integral part of People’s Republic of China and also determines to struggle to the day of unification. We believe that we have justice and truth on our side just as Lincoln did. We believe we will be supported by the people because of what we do for the people.
　　From the birth of slavery, black people were not treated as human beings by slaveholders. They were leading such a misery life that nobody else could image or stand. Lincoln loved his people and respect human right. On January 1, 1863 he issued the historic Emancipation Proclamation which declared that all persons held as slaves within the rebellious states were, and henceforward shall be free. He was the first president who dared to stand out to struggle against slavery in the history of the United States. Thanks for Abraham Lincoln; thousands of millions of black people realized their dream that one day their children would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the strength of their character. After they got their freedom, they knew they were also the hosts of this country and they had the obligation and responsibility to build their common home. I always believe that a country with slavery will not walk too far.
　　Though Lincoln got so many achievements, his way to those was not so smooth. People may know that before he became the 16th president, how many frustrations he had to confront. Unemployment, death of lover and relatives, failure of business……But he never submitted. Just because of these setbacks he undergone, he set up the unyielding will and this fearless spirit helped him achieve the successes. Without the fearless spirit, could he have the courage to lead the union and fight against the slavery, could the country become so prosperous now?
　　To American people, Lincoln was their hero forever; to people of whole word, Lincoln was one of the most admirable and respectable man. Abraham Lincoln will be remembered by all the people in the world as one of the most important people in modern times!
