Lockwood地下。
Alaric和Elena在Angel的带领下走进刻有岩画的石洞。
Angel: “All right. This is as far as I can get.”
Elena: “What is all this？”
Alaric: “As far as I can tell it’s a story, in simple archaeological terms, a really really old story.”
石洞里挂起了电灯，灰色的石壁上，苍白色的简略图案，不曾见于记载的部落生活终于展现在众人眼前。
Alaric的目光略过一排深深浅浅的月牙和猛兽: “That right there is a moon cycle. A man. A wolf.”
Elena: “A werewolf？”
Angel: “We are under the Lockwood’s, aren’t we.”
Elena: “I don’t understand. I thought the Lockwoods came here with the original founders in the 1860s.”
Angel: “Human original founders. According to this wall, werewolves have been here a lot longer than that.”
Alaric: “How long？”
Angel指向墙壁的一边: “Look those names. They are written in runic, a Viking script.”
Elena: “Vikings？”
Angel: “This name here, it reads… Nicklaus.”
Elena: “Klaus.”
Angel: “And Elijah… and Rebekah.”
一千年前。
同样的石壁边，穿着麻布长裙的Rebekah拿着一把短剑，在墙上刻下自己的名字。
身后，举着火把的Nicklaus不放心的说: “Rebekah, let me have at it.”
Rebekah: “Quiet, Nicklaus. I have to have my concentration if I’m not to slice off a finger.”
Nicklaus: “Father will not like you handling the blade.”
Rebekah: “If I want to wield a blade, I shall wield a blade. Father need not know.”
Nicklaus: “He will find out. He always does.”
Rebekah转过身，走到自己哥哥面前: “That is because you always tell him.”
Nicklaus垂下眼帘: “I can’t help it. He frightens me.”
Rebekah: “He frightens us all. This is why we stick together as one, always and forever. Right, traitor？”
Nicklaus终于微微笑了: “Right.”
Rebekah把短剑递给他: “Here. You finish. I’m to help mother with the meal.”
“Yes. Go tend to dinner.” Nicklaus放下火把，调笑的说， “Leave the blades to the men, little sister.”
Rebekah眯起眼睛，把短剑重重放在Nicklaus手上，剑刃立刻划开了他的手心。
Nicklaus: “Ahh. Bekka!”
Rebekah得意的笑笑: “It’s just a little blood. Be a man about it.”
Rebekah笑了笑走了，而Nicklaus手心的伤口，并没有很快愈合。
现在，Lockwood地下石洞。
Elena: “These are the names of the original family？”
Alaric: “This cave could have been here since way before the founding of Mystic Falls, or even the entire new world, for that matter.”
Elena: “Ok. This is got to be one of this Klaus’s fakes.”
Angel: “Could be. But check this out.”
光线照到最边上的一个名字。
Elena: “What’s the name？”
Angel: “Mikael.”
Elena: “Mikael？ Mikael as the vampire hunter who knows how to kill Klaus？”
Angel: “Yep. And maybe we should call him, papa original.”
地道尽头。
Stefan: “Why would Angel tell us this？ Last time I check, he’s friend with Klaus.”
Damon: “Careful Stef, he can hear you. And if he wants to rip your heart out, I will…”
Stefan: “Happily to help.”
Damon笑着挑了挑眉: “Yes. But that doesn’t mean he want Klaus screws us over and turn Elena into a blood bag for hybrid.”
Stefan: “So he’s willing to protect Elena. Like you do？”
Damon转过脸，挑眉看着Stefan: “He’s willing to protect Elena because he loves me, and you are my brother, and Elena is your girlfriend, same reason as mine.”
Stefan拉下一边嘴角点了点头，地道尽头的Angel翻了个白眼。
Ric将整个石洞的壁画拍照，打算慢慢研究其中含义，而Angel并不想加入。
Damon愉快的拖着Angel回家继续二人生活，可却在院子前发现了好几个不速之客。
Angel挑了挑眉，前院门廊下，有着一头棕色小卷毛和鲜红双唇的吸血鬼始祖高兴的大声说: “There you are! I’ve been waiting for hours.”
Damon: “Oh no…”
不管Damon有多么不爽，Klaus可不是你能够拒之门外的人。
他兴致勃勃的参观了Angel的新家，并宣布自己也买下了Mystic Falls最豪华的一栋宅院，正要进行改造。
Angel: “That’s whyyou come back？”
Klaus舒服的落座: “I came back because I miss my friend.”
Angel打开一瓶红酒，给他倒上: “Maybe not a good time to come back.”
Klaus: “Yes. And now I see Damon is not working with Katerina anymore.”
Damon把刚坐下的Angel揽进怀里: “Well you did kill the love of my life so you get me hating you. But since he’s ok with it, I could be ok with it.”
Klaus甩了个白眼: “Did you and Katerina find him？”
Damon: “In an old cemetery in Charlotte,yes.”
Klaus没有说话，可他的双手不自然的握紧了。
Damon: “Last time I check, Katherine hasn’t waked him yet.”
Angel扫了Klaus一眼，也放下酒杯: “I heard some stories from Elijah. But he never mentioned anything about Mikael. Why are you so afraid of him？”
而Ric跟Elena这边，Elena决定直接向Rebekah询问关于始祖的故事。
学校。
在拉拉队成员的欢呼下，Rebekah得意的做了一组漂亮的前空翻。
刚直起身，就看见了Elena。
Rebekah: “You. Goody.”
Elena: “I was hoping we could talk.”
Rebekah: “About what？ Stefan？ Don’t worry. I’m off him until he starts treating me better. In fact,you should probably take a page out of my book if I’m being honest.”
Elena从包里掏出了一张Ric拍的照片: “Actually I’d rather talk about this.”
照片上，正是Rebekah名字的维京版本，Rebekah立刻变了脸色，但她咽下那一阵惊慌，勉强笑笑说: “I should get back to the girls. Homecoming’s right around the corner.”
Rebekah转身就走，不过有备而来的Elena气定神闲的说: “Well, then maybe I’ll ask Mikael when we wake him.”
Rebekah脚步一顿，回头说: “You are bluffing. You don’t know where he is. No one does.”
Elena: “Then who’s rotting in that old cemetery in Charlotte？”
Rebekah立刻急了: “If you wake Mikael, we are all doomed.”
Elena: “So then tell me.”
Rebekah: “Why do you want to know？”
Elena: “Why don’t you want me to wake him？”
Rebekah: “I need to get back to the girls.”
Rebekah虽然转身就走，可是Elena的话让她又回想起了一千年前。
当她还是人类的时候。
一千年前。
Rebekah: “Come on, Henrik. Our brothers are fighting again.”
Rebekah淡金色的长发分出一缕扎成辫子盘在额上，身后，还跟着自己的小弟弟。粗糙的木头与兽皮搭建起的房屋前，空地上，Elijah与Nicklaus正在比剑。
Elijah的劈砍被Nicklaus拦住了，两人对峙着。
Elijah: “Oh look, sister’s arrived, to watch me fast-approaching victory.”
穿着布衣与皮甲的Nicklaus满脸笑容: “On the contrary, Elijah.”
两人继续你来我往，Nicklaus借力飞快的转了个身，一剑削断了Elijah的腰带。
Nicklaus得意的说: “She’s come to laugh at you.”
兄妹四人脸上都露出了笑容，不远处的Mikael粗犷的脸上却没有丝毫笑意。
Esther: “Relax, Mikael. Nicklaus means well.”
Mikael: “That is precisely my problem.”
一见两人到来，兄妹四人脸上的笑容都消失不见。
Mikael拿过Elijah手上的长剑，走到Nicklaus身前大声说: “So…why don’t you teach me that trick,young warrior？”
Nicklaus刚刚半抬起垂下的头，Mikael横劈的一剑就到了眼前，他赶快后退半步拦下: “Father, we were just having fun.”
Mikael声色俱厉: “We fight for our survival. You find time for fun？! I want to have fun! Teach me. Come on!”
Nicklaus紧张的解释: “Father, it was nothing.”
Mikael大吼着出剑，长剑相交的铿锵声让Rebekah忍不住瑟缩。
Mikael挑飞了Nicklaus的剑，一把将他推倒在地，举起剑指在他的咽喉上方，好像随时能刺下去。
Mikael: “You are foolish and impulsive, my boy.” Nicklaus恐惧的不住吸气， “What No more laughter？”
Esther: “You’ve made your point, Mikael.”
Mikael大吼一声，将剑插进了Nicklaus脖子旁的地上。
Nicklaus终于睁开了眼睛，看见Mikael起身离开，才虚脱一般的软了下来。
现在。Alaric的公寓。
Ric正缓慢的分辨着不同图案的含义。
Elena: “Rebekah will come around.”
Ric: “Are you sure？ I mean, a thousand-year-old vampire, I’m sure had learned the art of patience.”
Elena手机一震，她拿出来一看，得意的笑了: “She’s a thousand-year-old vampire who’s joined the cheerleading squad. There’s a whole different set of rules in play here, Ric. I’ve got this.”
Rebekah的短信：Come over for a chat.
因为Stefan的“关系”，Rebekah直接拎着东西住进了Salvatore大宅。反正Damon厚着脸皮搬去跟Angel一起住了，也没人赶她。
Angel宅。
Klaus给自己灌了一杯红酒，才低声说: “My parents had just started a family when a plague struck their homeland. They lost a child to it. They wanted to escape and protect their future family from the same fate.”
Damon在一边无聊的环住Angel的腰，Angel哄狗狗一样拍了拍他的头，专心听Klaus讲。
Angel: “So you end up here？ The new world？”
Klaus: “My mother knew the witch Ayana, who heard from the spirits of a mystical land where everyone were healthy, blessed by the gifts of speed and strength that led my family here, where we lived amongst those people.”
Angel: “The werewolves.”
Klaus: “To us, they were just our neighbours. My family lived in peace with them for over 20 years, during which time my family had more children, including me.”
Salvatore宅。
Elena: “It sounds so normal.”
Rebekah: “It was…Once a month, our family retreated to the caves beneath our village. The wolves would howl through the night and by morning, we’d return home.”
一千年前。
Rebekah走到窗边，窗户上挂着一排各式各样的项链，她抬手轻轻托起其中之一，也就是她之后戴了九百多年的那一条，手却被烫了一下。
黑发女巫微笑着看着她。
Rebekah撅起嘴: “Ayana,you burned me.”
Ayana: “That is not yours to touch.”
远处，传来了Nicklaus嘶声大叫: “Mother!!”
Rebekah惊讶的说: “Is that Nicklaus？ Something is wrong.”
她提起裙摆跑出门外，就看见Nicklaus抱着他们最小的弟弟Henrik哭着走来。而Henrik口鼻流血，身上更有三道深可见骨的划伤。
Rebekah惊叫: “Henrik!”
Nicklaus: “Mother!”
众人听到喊声都围了过来。
Esther: “No. what happened？”
Nicklaus哭着跌坐在一边: “The wolves. I’m sorry…”
Esther慌乱的抓住Ayana: “We must save him. Please, there must be a way.”
Ayana摸了摸Henrik的脖颈，摇了摇头: “The spirits will not give us a way, Esther. Your boy is gone.”
Esther: “No…no!”
现在。
Angel宅。
Klaus: “One full moon, I and myyoungest brother Henrik snuck out to watch the men turn into beasts. That was forbidden. Henrik paid his price… And that was the beginning of the end of peace with our neighbours. And one of the last moments my family had together as humans.”
Salvatore宅。
Rebekah拿起桌子上Stefan和Elena的照片，撇了撇嘴: “Honestly, I don’t get you two as a couple.”
Elena: “Why would you. You don’t know anything about who he really is.”
Rebekah笑了: “I know exactly who he is. He is a vampire. We’re a predatory species. We don’t have time to care about humans and their silly little lives.”
Elena可不会被她的话吓到: “Is that whyyou joint the cheerleading team？ If you don’t care about the homecoming dance？”
Rebekah无话可说。
Elena: “You know what？ I’m just gonna go.”
Rebekah在她身后说: “You haven’t even heard half the story.”
Elena偷偷一笑，转过身来，仍旧是一脸不耐: “And you’re not going to tell it. You’re just bore and looking for someone to push around. Find someone else to play with. Maybe you can compel yourself a friend.”
Elena说完转身就走，身后，Rebekah终于说: “The necklace wasn’t Stefan’s to give. It belonged to the original witch.”
圣母PK懒熊妹子，圣母胜！
Angel宅。
Angel: “The original witch, as the one who put the hybrid curse on you？”
Klaus: “Not just the hybrid curse. She’s the one who turned us into vampires.”
一千年前。
Mikael: “Please, Ayana, I implore you. You must call upon the spirits before the next full moon.”
烛火明灭中，黑发女巫不为所动。
Ayana: “I will not. It is a crime against nature.”
刚经历过丧子之痛的Esther的声音还带着哭腔: “Ayana, we have already lost too much. We cannot lose any more. The spirits can help us find a way to protect our children.”
现在。
Salvatore宅。
Elena: “So vampirism was a form of protection？”
Rebekah: “What else would it be？”
Elena: “A curse.”
Rebekah: “My parents only saw a way of keeping their children alive.”
Elena: “Yeah, but why stay？ If they were so afraid of the werewolves, why not leave？”
Angel宅。
Klaus: “Pride. Father didn’t want to run anymore. He wanted to fight and be superior to the wolves. Where they could bite, we had to bite harder. Where they had speed, we had to be faster. Agility, strength, senses…”
一千年前。
Mikael: “Everything could be heightened. Our family could live forever.”
Ayana: “At what cost？ This magic you speak of breeds consequence. This is the makings of a plague, Esther. The spirits will turn on you.”
Esther: “Please, Ayana.”
Ayana: “I will have no part in it.”
黑发女巫摇头离开了。
Mikael: “If she will not protect our family…then it is in your hands alone, my love.”
现在。
Angel宅。
Angel: “In her hands？”
Klaus: “She was also a witch. The witch of the original family, the original witch.”
Angel: “If your mother is a witch, is that means you can be one as well？”
Klaus: “No. A witch is nature’s servant. A vampire is an abomination of nature. You can either be one or the other, never both. My mother did that for us. She did not turn.”
Angel: “How did you turn？”
Klaus: “She called upon the sun for life and the ancient white oak tree, one of nature’s eternal objects, for immortality. That night, father offered us wine laced with blood. Then he drove his sword through our hearts.”
Salvatore宅。
Elena: “He killed you？!”
Rebekah: “And he wasn’t delicate about it either.”
一千年前。
Nicklaus和Rebekah从昏迷中醒来，白色的布衣清晰地印着他们心口流出的鲜血。
Nicklaus: “Rebekah!”
Rebekah: “Blood？! What happened？”
Nicklaus: “It’ll be alright. We will be alright…”
Mikael推着一个少女进门。
Nicklaus: “What are you doing？”
Mikael: “We must finish what we started. You have to drink if you want to live. Drink!!!”
Mikael将少女推倒在地，划开了她的手腕，塞进了Rebekah嘴里……
现在。
Angel宅。
Klaus: “It was euphoric. The feeling of power was indescribable. But the witch Ayana was right about consequences. The spirits turned on us and nature fought back. For every strength there would be a weakness. The sun became our enemy. It kept us indoors for weeks. And then mother found a solution.”
Salvatore宅。
Rebekah: “There were other problems. Inside, neighbours who had opened their homes to us could now keep us out. Flowers at the base of the white oak burned and prevented compulsion. And the spell decreed that the tree that gave us life could also take it away.”
Angel宅。
Klaus: “So we burned it to the ground.”
Salvatore宅。
Rebekah: “But the darkest consequence was something my parents never anticipated…the hunger. Blood had made us reborn, and it was blood that we craved above all else. We could not control it. And with that, the predatory species was born.”
Elena: “Why did Mikael start hurting Klaus？”
Rebekah: “When Nic made his first human kill, it triggered his werewolf gene. With that, he became my father’s greatest shame.”
Elena: “Yeah, I heard that part from Elijah, about your mother had had an affair with a werewolf. Klaus wasn’t his son.”
Rebekah: “She tried to make it right. She put the hybrid curse on Nic to suppress his werewolf side, and then she turned her back on him. But Mikael’s greatest weakness as a human was his pride. As a vampire, that was magnified. He went on a rampage and killed half the village. Then he came home and killed her.”
Elena: “Mikael killed your mother？!”
Rebekah: “He said she broke his heart so he would break hers. He tore it from her chest as Nic watched. Afterwards, my father took off in a rage, and the rest of my family scattered. Nic stayed so he could help me bury her.”
一千年前。
小小的村庄寂静的让人害怕。
空地上，Nicklaus正在埋葬Esther，Rebekah站在母亲的坟墓边，仍旧忍不住抽噎。
良久，Nicklaus扔下铁锹，Rebekah带着哭腔说: “I know you think she hated you, Nicklaus, but she did not. She was just afraid.”
Nicklaus: “…”
Rebekah: “I’m sorry she turned her back on you. I will never do that.”
“Nor will I.”一个声音从两人背后响起，Elijah走了过来。
Nicklaus终于湿了眼眶。
兄妹三人围在母亲的坟前，握住了彼此的手。
Rebekah坚定的说: “We stick together as one, always and forever.”
现在。
Salvatore宅。
Elena: “Even though he locked you in a coffin for 90 years.”
Rebekah: “We’re vampires. Our emotions are heightened. I’m stubborn, Elijah moral, and Nic… Nic has no tolerance for those who disappoint him. Over a thousand years as family, we’ve all made that mistake at least once. I’ve made it several times.”
Elena: “But you still love him？”
Rebekah: “He’s my brother, and I am immortal. Should I spend an eternity alone instead？”
Angel宅。
Klaus: “That’s the story of the original family. I need more this.”
Angel: “Cellar’s that way.”
Klaus走后，Damon撇了撇嘴: “Twisted mother, twisted father, and twisted family.”
Angel挑眉: “Such a big talk from a man who was actually killed by his father.”
Damon撅嘴，发现Angel有些神不守舍，摇了摇他，问到: “What’s wrong？ You look so serious.”
Angel喃喃低语: “I got bad feelings… I can sense something, something dangerous…”
Damon: “What do you mean by dangerous？”
Angel沉思着，忽然摇了摇头: “No, we don’t know has Katherine waken Mikael or not. It’s too many unknowns.”
Damon: “Even though he was waken, so what We can kick that hybrid freak out anytime.”
“I heard that.” Klaus拎着一瓶红酒走过来， “If Mikael was waken,you’ll be absolutely in danger.”
Damon猛地坐正了，因为Klaus那句话是对Angel说的。
Damon: “What do you mean.”
Klaus: “Mikael doesn’t feed on living creatures. He is even stricter than Stefan at that department.”
Angel: “So what does he eat？”
Klaus: “Vampires.”
Damon深深皱起了眉。
Angel: “Katherine is determined to kill you. She’ll wake Mikael sooner or later. And you may give Stefan a free pass but you never let Elena go, which means, Elena, Stefan and Katherine is on the same side no matter how odd that is.”
Klaus给自己灌了一杯酒: “That would make two of us.”
Damon握住Angel的肩，给自己也灌了一杯酒: “I should go back.”
Angel: “Keep me posted.”
两人交换了一个吻。
Damon: “Be safe.”
Angel: “You too.”
Damon最后亲了一下Angel的手，离开了。
Klaus翻了个白眼: “You two are seriously hurting my tooth.”
Angel: “Hope by the end of the day,you still have any.”
Lockwood地下洞穴。
Ric把所有他分辨出来的图案贴上了意义，讲给Elena和Bonnie。
Ric: “Vampire, werewolf, the shape of your necklace represent witch. The tree, that’s they burned it down…”
Elena: “Oh my god…”
Elena的手电指向一个图案，女巫，混血，女巫的心脏被挖了出来。
Elena: “Rebekah doesn’t know the real story.”
镇外公路上，一辆卡车与一辆轿车相继开过。
车里。
Angel: “Where are we going？”
Klaus: “…”
Angel: “Klaus？ Are you ok？”
Klaus: “Yeah. Why wouldn’t I be？ This is just what I did for a thousand years.”
Angel拍了拍他的肩膀: “You can find a way to kill him, if that’s the only way to go.”
Klaus: “Will you be on my side？”
Angel: “Yes.”
Klaus: “…Angel. I have something to tell you…”
Salvatore宅。
Elena拿着照片进门。
Rebekah: “I thought I told you to leave.”
Elena: “How did you know that Mikael killed your mother？”
Rebekah: “Nic told me.”
Elena: “He lied to you. The cave you carved your family’s names is covered in symbols, look… This is your family, how your parents arrived, how they made peace, the spell that turned them into vampires, the symbol of hybrid, and this…”
Rebekah的唇忍不住颤抖起来。
Elena: “The hybrid killed the original witch. Not Mikael, Klaus. She turned her back on him, made him one of his kind. With the werewolf gene comes aggression and violence. When he turned, all of that was heightened…”
Rebekah不停地摇头。
Elena: “He killed her, Rebekah! And he made up all the lies so he wouldn’t lose you.”
Rebekah大喊: “These mean nothing! They’re just stupid drawings done by stupid people who had no idea who my family was!”
她拿起桌子上的照片，把它们丢进了壁炉里。
Elena: “Klaus killed your mother. He has a hold on you, on me, on everyone. We have to make it stop!”
“Shut up!”愤怒的Rebekah双眼变红，一把将Elena撞到墙上。
Elena这才意识到面前也是一个始祖，又惊又怕的看着Rebekah。
Rebekah眼睛周围暴起的血管却慢慢消失，她后退几步，茫然的看着某处。
最后，眼泪流了出来，Rebekah跌坐在地，失声痛哭。
房子外，Damon看了一眼Stefan，拨通了Angel的电话。
车里。
Angel挂上了电话。
两人沉默了许久，Angel说: “Stop the car.”
虽说开车的hybrid知道他的boss是Klaus，但是Angel虽然平日里总是带着温和的微笑，一旦他沉下脸，气氛立刻就变得压抑起来，他的声音带着理所当然的命令语气，hybrid小弟下意识的就停了车。
Angel下车，走到路旁的小树林里，Klaus沉默的跟在他身后。
Angel半低着头思考了很久，才终于抬头问Klaus: “Why would you do that.”
Klaus站在三步之外，侧过脸不看Angel，像个不肯认错的小孩。
Angel暮的心一软，走过去握住他的肩膀，尽量放软了语气: “Klaus… why would you do that？ If you have any reason to explain, say it! Say it out loud. If you don’t, no one would ever understand!”
Klaus抿了抿唇，终于转过脸看着Angel: “I killed you. You really don’t mad at me？”
Angel: “I was. But I’m over it. I understand whyyou did it.”
Klaus: “You still on my said now？”
Angel: “If you willing to speak up. Don’t be that pride, Klaus. Trust is not give, is earned. Don’t lose mine.”
Klaus看着Angel，眼神竟然有些无助。
Klaus: “I…”
第二天，Salvatore宅。
Rebekah对着镜子里的自己勉强笑了笑，拿起包准备出门，没想到一开门，门外却站着……
Rebekah: “Mikael…？!”
